Who Am I?
Hello, my name is Maria Arellano. I am a first-generation student journalist at the University of North Texas, majoring in Journalism with a minor in Psychology.
My college journey started at fifteen, in the ninth grade at Skyline High School in their Early College program. Thanks to the program, I graduated with my high school diploma and associate's degree.
I am in my second year at UNT and have taken courses in photojournalism, media writing, Korean Language, and psychology. My interests are in World News, culture, society, and politics. I hope to study abroad one day and experience a different country and culture.
In the Fall of 2024, I was a staff writer for the Opinion section of the North Texas Daily, the student-run newspaper at UNT. I've written op-eds centered on Higher Education, Mental Health, and Politics.
As I continue my studies, I aim to expand my experience and work with real journalists to launch a career as a photojournalist and writer.
