Who Am I?
Hello, my name is Maria Arellano. I am a first-generation student journalist at the University of North Texas, majoring in Journalism with a minor in Psychology.
My college journey started at fifteen, in the ninth grade at Skyline High School in their Early College program. Thanks to the program, I graduated with my high school diploma and associate's degree.
I am currently pursuing my bachelors' degree at UNT and have taken courses in photojournalism, media writing, Korean Language, and psychology. My interests are in World News, culture, society, and politics. I hope to study abroad one day and experience a different country and culture.
Since Fall of 2024, I have joined the North Texas Daily, the student-run newspaper at UNT, as a volunteer writer and photographer. I've written op-eds centered on higher education, mental health, and politics. I've received byline credit in photo coverage within the News and Arts & Life sections.
As I continue my studies, I aim to expand my experience and work with journalists to launch a career as a photojournalist and writer. I bring dedication and effort into my work and grow with every story, interview, and column.
